This is Darlington's most significant edge of town woodland - a 25 year old plantation site of predominately Scots Pine. Roe deer are frequently seen, along with Gold Crest, Coal Tit, Fox and Sparrow Hawk.
A local Friends Group has been established and joint work with volunteers from Groundwork, Cummins, and Middleton St George Parish Council has meant that work is underway to improve the network of paths and provide interpretation panels for visitors. Work has been undertaken in the woods with student volunteers to provide a greater mix of habitats to increase the range of species found here. Darlington Borough Council hopes to introduce a community managed wildlife garden area to the site.
